Some of our clinicians use approved Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to help create notes and other documentation during consultations. These tools are sometimes referred to as AI scribes or Ambient Voice Technology.
When used, the technology listens to the conversation between you and your clinician and uses this information to prepare a draft of the consultation notes and, where appropriate, other clinical documentation such as letters.
AI does not make decisions about your care. Your clinician remains responsible for your consultation, your treatment and the information recorded in your medical record. The clinician will review and, where necessary, amend the information produced by the AI tool before it is used.
If a clinician intends to use an AI-assisted note-taking tool during your consultation, they will tell you at the start of the appointment.
You can ask for the AI tool not to be used. If you do not want it to be used, please tell your clinician and they will record the consultation in another way.
We have assessed the use of these technologies in accordance with our data protection, confidentiality, information governance and clinical safety responsibilities.
