Weight management referrals
We understand there is a national policy around the availability of weight loss medications from 23 June 2025.
GP’s in Southport have not yet received confirmation that they will be commissioned to prescribe these medications.
We are currently awaiting official guidance and commissioning updates. Until we receive confirmation, we cannot guarantee that the service will be available for our patients.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW
- We will provide an update as soon as more information becomes available
- If we are going to be commissioned to provide this service, we will offer suitable appointments to our patients.
- If we are not going to be commissioned, we will advise you on what arrangements are being put in place for the local population.
Thank you for your patience, understanding and for waiting for official updates before contacting us about this medication.

- You must be 18 or over.
- You must have a BMI greater than 30. The BMI threshold will be lowered to 27.5 for people from black, Asian, and ethnic minority backgrounds, as we know people from these ethnic backgrounds are at an increased risk of conditions such as Type 2 diabetes at a lower BMI.
- You must have diabetes, high blood pressure, or both.
- You must have a smartphone, tablet, or computer with internet access.
