Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm

In England, screening for AAA is offered to men during the year they turn 65.

Men aged 65 or over are most at risk of AAAs. Screening can help spot a swelling in the aorta early on when it can be treated.

Screening for AAA isn't routinely offered to:

  • women
  • men under 65
  • people who've already been treated for an AAA

This is because the risk of an AAA is much smaller in these groups.

You can ask for a scan to check for an AAA if you think you might need one but haven't been offered a screening test.

Measles Measles poster

The following message has been issued by Sefton's Public Health team.

Over the summer months, with people being out and about more, Sefton’s Public Health team are issuing advice and guidance around measles, which is extremely infectious.

Symptoms include high fever, sore, red and watery eyes, coughing, aching and feeling generally unwell and a blotchy red / brown rash.

You can help by ensuring your children receive two MMR vaccines on time (one at the age of one and the other at aged 3 years and 4 months). If your children have missed these vaccines, it’s not too late, so contact your GP to make an appointment to ensure your children are up-to-date.

Teenagers and young adults should also be fully vaccinated before traveling or attending festivals and other summer events.

If you have symptoms of measles, stay at home and phone your GP or NHS 111 for advice.

Sincere apologies if any of your patients have had difficulties accessing the service since we launched. We believe these issues have affected no more than 1% of Patient Access users and we have now resolved the large majority of them.

We’re so sorry for any inconvenience caused with additional call volumes or patient concerns, please rest assured we are putting all available resource behind fixing any remaining issues.

If any patients contact you saying that they are unable to log in to the Patient Access app on an Android tablet, please for the moment advise them to use our website at where the full service is available – we are working on making these devices compatible with the app and expect this to be ready by the end of this week.

Give blood - urgent call for support

Message sent on behalf of NHS Blood and Transplant – Marketing
Recent bad weather led to the cancellation of some blood donation sessions and between 6-7,000 units of blood were lost as a result. This could take weeks to recover and that’s why we need your support.
Despite many donors coming forward, blood stocks are at urgently low levels and there are still appointments to fill at our 23 city and town based permanent Donor Centres to ensure blood stocks don’t drop further before Easter. Current stocks of group O (the universal blood type used in emergencies), group B, and A positive blood are particularly low at the moment.
We are asking those across the NHS who can give blood, to book an appointment at a Donor Centre and help us in the run up to Easter.

To make this as easy as possible for you, I have attached some graphics for you to share through your internal comms channels, whether that’s on your intranet, internal social network or emails. These graphics should be accompanied with the following copy:

If you cannot make an appointment please notify us, preferably with 24 hours' notice. Thank you for your co-operation.

Why not sign up to our text reminder service for appointments. If you cannot attend an appointment you can text us back when you receive your reminder to cancel it!
