Welcome to Cumberland House Surgery
"Cumberland House Surgery strives to improve and maintain the health of our patients within our well trained and highly motivated team. We observe strict codes of confidentiality at all times and treat all patients with dignity and respect”
Cumberland House Surgery is a long established medical practice just outside of Southport Town Centre. The premises were upgraded and extended in 2011 and we have further refurbished and built a two storey extension in March 2018.
There are five GP partners with a list size of approximately 10,000 patients. The practice has a full complement of staff including Practice Nurses, Nurse Practitioner, Health Care Assistants and a highly experienced administrative support team.
We are a GMS practice with a high QOF achievement and we have good working relations with our local Clinical Commissioning Group, Community Nursing & Midwifery teams and local hospitals and community clinics. We provide room space for Living Well and Alzheimer's UK weekly, to enable our patients access to social support within their practice.
Cumberland House Surgery also pride ourselves on being a GP Training Practice. Dr Roseberry & Dr Irvine mentor and train GP Registrars in line with recommendations by the local Mersey Deanery and RCGP. The trainees who are in our practice are fully qualified doctors who are specialising in General Practice.
All members of the Clinical Team have annual appraisals and the Practice is involved in the appraisal process of other primary care physicians.
Our website has been designed with the patient’s needs at the forefront of everything, from checking surgery times to letting us know what you think of us.

Our dedicated team are here to treat those minor ailments that occur as well as providing specialist management of long-term conditions and clinics covering a wide range of healthcare issues. The technology also means you can now do a lot of things from the comfort of your home such as order a repeat prescription or cancel an appointment.

Partners in Care
Once registered, patients and healthcare professionals work together to ensure the most appropriate care is provided. This partnership philosophy extends even further and our active patient group exists to make sure that patient needs and the practice offering are always heading in the same direction.

Accountable/Named GP for All Patients
The practice is required by the Government under the terms of the latest GP contract to allocate all patients a named accountable GP.
Individual patients will be informed of their named accountable GP at the first appropriate interaction with the practice.
For convenience if you have a medical card your Accountable GP will be the named doctor you are registered with. Patients registering over the last 2-3 years will not have received a medical card as these are no longer routinely sent when registering with a new GP.
However, the practice does keep a record of your registered (accountable) GP. If you wish to be told the name of your Accountable GP, please ask the receptionists when you are next in the surgery.
Please note: there is no need to telephone the practice for this information.
Where a patient expresses a preference as to which GP they have been assigned, the practice will make reasonable efforts to accommodate this request.
Having a named GP does not prevent you seeing any other doctor in the practice. Your named GP will not be available at all times and if your needs are urgent, you may need to discuss them with an alternative doctor.
Your named GP will have overall responsibility for the care and support that our surgery provides to you. They will also work with other relevant health and care professionals, who are involved in your care, to ensure that your care package meets your individual needs.
